Abu Dhabi, UAE, February XX 2024 - To celebrate the opening of Masdar Park, their second and largest community park, Masdar City, an Abu Dhabi, UAE-based sustainability and innovation hub, is bringing back a fresh iteration of The Festival from February 16 to 18. The celebrations will run between 4 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The 20-hecatre park, featuring playgrounds, green spaces, sporting facilities, and the new Estidama Mosque, will be transformed with sustainable décor, games, art installations, activities, and a variety of delicious food options.
“We always love welcoming the community to The Festival,” said Mohamed Al Breiki, Masdar City’s executive director of sustainable development. “This one is particularly exciting for us because we get to re-introduce Masdar Park, one of my favorite projects to date. It’s not just a park. It’s a demonstration of a different approach to urban living. We’re showcasing how community spaces can be both inclusive and sustainable, and ultimately make communities stronger. Masdar Park is also a vital part of Masdar City’s ‘green-print’ for sustainable development. We’re looking forward to sharing it with the entire community.”
The Festival is free for visitors of all ages to attend. Eco-themed activities include a dazzling roaming “green” circus parade, an immersive and interactive luminescent floor installation, and numerous creative workshops for all ages. Food kiosks will offer a variety of delicious food and drink options.
Visitors can also choose to participate in several sporting activities in Masdar Park, including volleyball, badminton, padel ball, and basketball. They can also enjoy a pump track and a five-kilometer running and cycling track.
Masdar Park incorporates recycled materials throughout and is outfitted with 340 solar panels, which will generate over 300 megawatts of solar energy per year. The pump track uses a substance called liquid nano clay, which uses less water than conventional materials.
The 20-hectare park was awarded the “Exemplar” design certification under the Estidama Public Realm Rating System in September 2023. Masdar City’s Central Park received the rating in 2022, and was the first park in the region to do so.
